Hello! I’m James Sullivan, a Minnesota native, clarinetist, psychology student and hermit crab enthusiast. My parents told me I decided to play the clarinet when I was two years old. Blame it on Lawrence Welk. I have been active in the music market since I was a sophomore in high school, wearing a number of hats ranging from music retail, specialized product consultation, and private teaching.

Like most musicians, I owe an unfathomable debt to my teachers: Karrin Meffert-Nelson (Professor of clarinet, Gustavus Adolphus College, and performer with the Minnesota Orchestra/Minnesota Opera Orchestra) and Alexander Fiterstein (Professor of clarinet, University of Minnesota, and international soloist).

I am currently finishing up a double major in psychology and political science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I am an active researcher in the subfield of social psychology, and my experience has taught me that asking the right questions makes all the difference.

Thank you for stopping by my page! I am extremely excited to lend my expertise and passion to fellow musicians. By combining a musician’s energy and a scholar’s thoroughness, James’ Clarinet Shop provides the peak of clarinet excellence.

Now let's get out there and find your voice!
